Barek and Baguette: sandwichgasm

So this place. . . .Barek and Baguette.  I love this place.

The first sandwich I had from this place was the Turkey arugula.  I was at work and I said, "I am having a sandwich-gasm."  6 months in and I have never turned back from my food lust.

Oh my these sandwiches. Oh my oh my.   So this place is good.  The food is good!
The service is very very friendly.  The woman who manages or owns it is very kind.

So here is the set up you order at the counter and then they bring whatever you order to you.
There is a high chair.
There are regular height tables and a handfull of bistro height tables.
The bathrooms don't have a changing table.

But really it's the food that gets me.  The sandwiches are great. The Byreks are wonderful.  The fries are pretty good; the garlic fries are even better (but not as good as a mariners game!), the lentil soups are good- but not extraordinary.
The friendlyness is nice.

It is located on 12th and Columbia in the Capital Hill neighborhood near SeattleU and just down the hill from Swedish Hospital.

Here is their website.

Apparently they are also located in Bellevue Square.

The Independent -Madison Valley in Seattle, WA

The Independent
in the Madison Valley Neighborhood...
Seattle.

Okay so normally tiny restaurants with table service are NOT our cup of tea.  But Mr. is a lover of good pizza and The Independent is good pizza!

Foodpros

  • Great pizza- wood fired, lots of delicious toppings.
  • Good beer.
  • Great wine.

So here's what makes it kid friendly despite the tiny space and table service...lets call these Kidpros

Kidpros in order of importance

  • The servers are not hostile to kids but on the contrary are friendly
  • The space is relatively kid friendly with unpretentious seating including outdoor seating.
  • There seems to be a general recognition that some people who have kids might want to eat there with said kids- so simple things like a small basket of figurines, a game of uno, and some crayons
  • They have some kid friendly options on the menu but didn't hand us a kids menu (my kiddos aren't too picky
  • There is a park less than 1 block away, which was a nice place to pop over to after dinner (and to threaten with, "if you don't xxx no park."
